Fact Detective is an AI-assisted educational claim-checking service operated by Milo Wiseman. These Terms govern access to the website, its investigations, reports, audio, saved cases, monitoring and credit services. By selecting an age range, requesting an access code or using the service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Notice below.
1. Who may use the service
Users must select an honest age range before entering. The selection adapts the reading level only; it is not proof of age or identity. Fact Detective deliberately asks for a range rather than a full date of birth to minimise personal data.
If you are under 13, you may use the service only while a parent or legal guardian is present and supervising. The parent or guardian must authorise the use, select the required confirmation checkbox, enter an email address belonging to that adult, receive the verification code at that address and accept these Terms. An under-13 user must not enter their own email address. A teacher may supervise classroom activity, but the under-13 verification address must still belong to a parent or legal guardian unless the operator introduces a separately approved school-account arrangement.
The confirmation is a self-declaration and cannot independently prove age, parental responsibility or ownership of an email account. Misrepresenting these facts breaches these Terms. Parents and guardians are responsible for deciding whether claims, linked sources and generated responses are suitable for the child and for preventing the child from disclosing personal information.
2. What Fact Detective provides
The service uses artificial intelligence and online sources to investigate the wording of claims and produce an evidence-based assessment. Results may contain errors, miss recent information or misunderstand context. Accuracy figures and evidence scores are indicators, not mathematical probabilities or guarantees. Always open the cited sources and check important conclusions independently.
Fact Detective is not a substitute for a qualified professional and does not provide medical, legal, financial, safeguarding, emergency or other professional advice. Do not rely on it for decisions that could affect health, safety, legal rights, finances or another person’s welfare. Contact an appropriate professional or emergency service when necessary.
3. Safety and acceptable use
- Use only an email address and material you are authorised to use.
- Do not seek instructions for violence, weapons, abuse, exploitation, self-harm, unlawful activity or evading safeguards.
- Do not submit sexual material involving minors, graphic abuse, threats, harassment, malware, stolen confidential information or content that violates another person’s rights.
- Do not bypass authentication, credit limits, moderation, rate limits or payment controls; scrape the service; automate excessive requests; reverse engineer protected components; or disrupt other users.
Automated and local safety checks apply to every age group, including 18+. Content may be refused, limited or removed and access may be suspended where reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal compliance or service protection. Safety filters reduce risk but cannot guarantee that every unsuitable output will be detected.
4. Accounts, verification and security
Access codes are single-use and expire after 10 minutes. Keep codes private and notify the operator if you suspect unauthorised access. Guest login sessions may remain active for up to 24 hours on the device; Master access is restricted to configured addresses. For an under-13 user, the parent or guardian controls the verified account and is responsible for signing out on shared devices and supervising activity. You are responsible for activity carried out through your verified session unless caused by a failure for which the operator is legally responsible.
5. Credits, prices and payments
Guests receive the number of free credits shown in their account in each rolling 24-hour period. A search credit is reserved when a credited investigation begins; improving a claim before searching is free. Failed or safety-blocked requests are handled according to the credit rules displayed by the service. Logging out does not restore credits. Master accounts have unlimited use, subject to safety and service-protection controls.
Optional top-ups are processed by Stripe. The price, currency and number of credits are shown before checkout. Fact Detective does not receive or store full card details. Purchased credits are added only after successful payment confirmation, remain attached to the verified email and are used in accordance with the displayed credit rules. Statutory consumer rights remain unaffected. If a payment is duplicated, incorrectly charged or credits are not supplied, contact the operator promptly. Used digital credits are not refundable except where required by law.
6. Privacy notice—information collected
For data-protection purposes, Milo Wiseman is the service operator and controller for information handled directly by Fact Detective. Fact Detective may process: the verified adult or user email address; selected age range; the under-13 parent/guardian confirmation used during access; login and security records; necessary session-cookie data; credit balances and purchase references; claims, questions and generated results; saved cases, watchlist settings and achievements; optional uploads; report recipient details; bug reports; and basic technical information needed to secure and operate the service. It does not request an exact date of birth.
For an under-13 user, the account is associated with the parent or guardian’s email. Claims and saved cases created by the child may therefore be visible to and controlled by that adult. Do not enter the child’s name, school, address, contact details, health information or other identifying, confidential or special-category information unless genuinely necessary and lawful.
7. How information is used and shared
Information is used to provide the requested service, authenticate users, enforce the under-13 access rule, tailor reading level, generate and save investigations, provide reports and audio, administer credits and payments, prevent abuse, monitor selected claims, diagnose bugs, meet legal obligations and maintain security. The selected age range is used for readability and child-safety presentation—not advertising or behavioural marketing. Processing is based, as applicable, on providing the requested service, legitimate interests in operating and securing it, legal obligations and consent where specifically requested.
Claims, questions, age range, relevant case context and optional uploads may be sent to OpenAI to generate or moderate responses. Mailjet sends access codes, reports, monitoring notices and bug reports. Stripe processes optional payments. Those providers process information under their own applicable terms and privacy arrangements and may process information outside the UK using the safeguards available to them.
Verification codes are stored as protected digests and removed after use or expiry. The parent/guardian confirmation is checked before an access code is sent and may be recorded in the signed session for its duration so the under-13 rule cannot be bypassed by changing the reading level; the service does not create a separate date-of-birth record. Uploaded source files are not intentionally retained as original uploads by Fact Detective, although their content may be sent for processing. Generated audio may be cached. Account records, cases, achievements, credits, watchlists, security records and necessary transaction references may be retained while the account or an operational, safeguarding, legal, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute need continues.
A strictly necessary signed session cookie keeps users logged in. Browser storage may remember appearance, layout, reading-age choice and an unfinished claim draft. Fact Detective does not use these items for third-party advertising. Clearing browser data removes locally stored preferences and drafts but does not itself delete server account data.
8. Your information choices and rights
Guest users can download a copy of stored account data or delete their account through Account & data. For an under-13 account, the verified parent or guardian should exercise these controls. Deletion removes Guest account information controlled by Fact Detective, subject to information that must be retained for security, safeguarding, accounting, dispute handling or legal obligations. You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability or withdrawal of consent where those rights apply by contacting the operator using the programme contact details. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.
9. Saved cases, monitoring, email and external links
Saved cases and achievements are associated with the verified email. Watched claims may be rechecked approximately daily while the service is available and may use a Guest credit as displayed. Email delivery and monitoring are not guaranteed. Linked websites are independent third parties; Fact Detective does not control their availability, content, security or privacy practices.
10. Intellectual property and permitted use
The original application design, branding, text and software are © 2026 Milo Wiseman. All rights reserved. Third-party websites, sources, packages and other materials remain subject to their respective rights and licences. You may use and share your exported reports for lawful personal or educational purposes, provided you do not remove notices, misrepresent authorship, imply endorsement or infringe another person’s rights.
11. Availability, changes and liability
The service may be updated, limited, suspended or withdrawn, and features, providers, prices and credit allowances may change. Reasonable care will be taken in operating the service, but uninterrupted availability and error-free output are not promised. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss arising from reliance on AI output, third-party sources or services, user-submitted material or unauthorised use. Nothing excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Reporting, changes and governing law
Use Report a bug for technical problems or contact the operator through the details supplied with the programme for legal, privacy or payment enquiries. Material changes to these Terms will be shown by updating the version and effective date. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory rights that apply where you live.
